Chapter 32: This Is The Last Night

The sun had already rise above the hawaiian sky and it's rays where finding their way inside their hotel room as Pauline was already up and feeding her sons. She was sitting outside on the balcony enjoying the view from their room. They have booked the honeymoon suite even though that wasn't their honeymoon. That early summer breeze played with her hair as she was breastfeeding Kevin. She looked down at him. His eyes were wide and looking at her directly. He had wrapped his little fingers around his mother's index finger holding hard and not letting it go. He looked so peacufull and happy while he was getting what he needed at the moment.

Pauline was brushed lightly his small and yet beautiful little face thinking there was no other place in the world that she could be right now. In less than 30 hours she will be getting married to the man she wanted, loved and cared more than any other. All these seem like a dream she didn't want to stop having. Being here with her sons in her arms and her soon-to-be husband sound sleeping just a heartbeat away was something she had never thought she could have when she moved in New Jersey all those years back.

Checking the time on her phone it was time for her to stop and put Kevin into his basket next to his one minute older brother who was now sleeping with a full belly. All she had to do today was relax and enjoy the time she had left with her family and friends because tommorow their scedule was full.

"I think you're playing with my nipple here young man!" she said with low voice not wanting to wake up Jesse this early yet. With a very carefull move she placed Kevin in his basket and gave him a small toy that was on the table next to her for him to play.

Pauline got their baskets inside and slide the door behind her. She checked and PJ was still sleeping with his toy never leaving his hand. Kevin on the other hand was pretty awake and wanted attention from his mother. He was making noises so his mother will come and pick him us like she always did. With Kevin in her arms the 27 year old Pauline walked in the master bedroom.

Jesse was sleeping wearing his boxers. He was holding one of the pillows as he was facing the wall. "Let's wake up your Daddy!" she whispered in his ear and Kevin let an another scream of happiness as they were getting closer to the bed and he could recognize his father. Jesse like a light sleeper as he was heard the scream and turned his head to their direction. Pauline has already put Kevin on the other side of the bed. He was crawling from the one side of the bed to the other giving Jesse almost no time to turn fully around and embrase his son.

"Good morning to you little man!" he said with his sleepy voice and hugged Kevin. Pauline shut on her side of the bed and moved closer to them. "Good morning to you babe!" he said and kissed lightly. "Morning Jess!" she answered when they broke the kiss. "Where is PJ?" Jesse asked while he was looking around trying to spot him. "He's sound sleeping in his basket. And this guy is not getting tired. I just fed him." Pauline replied as she got more comfortable on the bed. "Well at least they didn't wake up in the middle of the night crying like yesterday." Jesse remind her. "That's true. Their sleeping scedule is kind a mess right now with all these going on." she said as she was now facing him.

"Yeah, you're right. When we'll be back home everything will get back to normal." he paused and moved closer to her watching where Kevin was first. "The new normal will be you being officially my wife." he kissed her again. She smiled and looked back at him getting lost looking in his eyes once more. Looking down to their little human being they created a matching pair of blue eyes looked at her and smiled back. "You know i can't wait Jess!!" she said back smiling. "I know, i know. But i also know that is getting late and i'm hungry. Let's go downstairs and get some food." he said and laughed. "Yeah, let's go. Maybe Kevin will fall asleep eventually like his brother." Pauline replied and got her arms around Kevin who was still trying to figure out how sheets work.

Once all four of them got dressed up they headed downstairs to the breakfast aerea. Being late July it was very croudy in the hotel lobby when they passed. "Mr Bongiovi! Miss Timson! Good morning!" they both heard and turned to the receptionist who called them. "Good morning! Is everything alright?" Jesse spoke fist. "Yes, everything is alright. We just wanted to let you know that the guests arrived early this morning and shettled in their rooms. They're staying to the hotel on the end of the road." the receprionist said leaving them both speachless. "What guests? Everyone is here already." Pauline spoke looking puzzled just like Jesse was.

"Mr Bongiovi and Mr Timson spoke with the general manager when you got here. You were lucky because this time of the year is difficult to fine accommodation in Hawaii. Here i printed the invoice for you with the extra 138 people." she said and passed Jesse the new invoice. Jesse took it in his hands and saw it to Pauline. "You said 138 guests?" Pauline asked back in shock. "Yes, I-I think you already knew. It's your wedding afterall." the receptionist answered while she looked at them both.

"Well, thank you for the information" Jesse said shortly after he folded the invoice and put it in his pocket. As they were walking away Pauline turned to Jesse and said "How much is it? I didn't see the number." "Don't worry about that babe. We need to get some answers first before i lose my tempet here and make a scene." Jesse answered as calmy as he could while people were walking by them. "I can't believe they did that without asking us first. Let's go get our answers!" Pauline answered. She was feeling left out on her won wedding. They both has agreed that they wanted a small and simple wedding.

Walking out of the elevator with the double stroller Pauline and Jesse passed the hotel rooms and find the rooms of their parents. Their rooms were next to each other and knoched the doors at the same time. "Coming...." Dorothea replied fast as she heard the knock. She opened the door and within a second Jesse walked right in looking for his Dad furious. Pauline followed with the strolled and Dorothea closed the door behind them.

Jesse found his Dad wearing his shirt but before he could say any words Jesse said "Dad what the fuck? We agreed on a small wedding! Who do you think you are to invite all these people without asking us first?" Jon looked back at him and said "Fuck! I told her not to tell you... it was a suprise. Costas and i thought it would be nice to have more people here. In Steph-".... he tried to finish but Jesse stopped him "That was different Dad. You both had no right to do such a thing! This is our wedding and we wanted it to do this our way!" he said pointing a finger at him. "Hey! Hey! Keep you voice down young man!" Jon answered back. "Like i said it was a pure act of love from fathers to their children" "You should had told us though Jon! That's a lot of people that we were not preparated for! Who did you invite really?" Pauline finally said looking at Jon "Well some friends and family. Some of them flew from Greece as well." Jon said as they heard a knock on the door. "Jesus Jon! The kids are right! Keep your voiced down!" Dorothea said as she walked away and went to answer the door.

Pauline's parentes stormed in the room "Is everything alright? We heard some yelling!" Pauline's father said as they walked in the bedroom follwed by Dorothea "Oh welcome! We have been waiting for you!" Pauline said with a raised voice. "Dad what were you thinking?" Costas looked at Jon and sighed "We wanted to suprise you guys! 30 guests its not enough for a proper wedding. You know Pauline in Greece we have biiig weddings and we thought it would be nice. We're sorry if that upset you but our intentions were good." "Of course and we are upset because you didn't respect our wishes to our wedding." Jesse added shortly after his father-in-law finished.

"There's nothing we can do to change that now! We have to deal with this!" Pauline said trying to stay as calm as possible. "Think how much fun we'll have! Our family are dying to meet Jesse i've told them so much about you two. We don't visit much like we should have and this is our chance to catch up with them." Costas said and looked at his daughter. "Dad, is done now! I warn you.... both" Pauline paused and looked at her father and then Jon "No more suprises! Is that understood?" Both nodded yes like kinds when they have been doing bad things. "Okay" Pauline said and smiled. "That doen't mean we forgive you. We'll talk about this again in Jersey." Jesse added quicky.

Several minutes later all of them were in the breakfast room eating, chatting and enjoying its other's company. Afterall they have known its other for a while now and even with the addition of Pauline's friends from Greece everyone had a great time.

"I think i'm dreaming." Maria whispered to Pauline in Greek. Pauline chuckled looking around everyone chatting "Yeah, i know it's a lot to take. But they are not always like that. They fight a lot. Especially that dynamic duo other there." Pauline said and pointed with her eyes Jon and Richie who were holding their grandsons. "Really?" Maria asnwered back suprised. "Of course! They are people just like us! They just happen to be famous but they are still human beings who make mistakes." "Something happend?" Maria asked and looked at Pauline. "Yes, but we will talk about it later!" she simply said. Maria nodded and checked on her daughter who was sitting right next to her eatting her cereal.

Hours later later Pauline walked in their room finding Jesse sitting on the chair of the balcony looking a piece of paper. She smiled as she thought that he might have been writting his vow on that piece of paper a strange feeling got her up in the stomack. Call it curiocity, impatience or just pure young love it's all the same and it' all true. Jesse as he heard her walking closer he quickly managed to fold that piece of paper  and put it in his pocket.

"Hiding somethings from he?" she asked as she put her hands on his torso from behind and kissed his cheek. "Me? Absolutely no!" he answered and and kissed her hand. "You know you should get going. It's bad luck looking at the bride before the wedding!" she said. "Oh come on! I don't believe in bad luck and neither you do!" "I know but let's do something tradditional for a change. Now go with the boys and have some fun!" Pauline said and as she sut nexto to him. "I will leave soon don't worry. I have to pick up the suit from the reception and make sure that everything is okay for tommorow." he paused and drunk a sip of his drink. "Have you talked with my Dad?" "No, why?" she answered back.

"I just want to know if they still want to play at the wedding." "Well, if they changed their minds don't you think they have told us already?" Pauline answered and looked at the ocean view. "Yeah, like the told us about the extra guests!" Jesse said back and laughed. "Yeah you're right!" she looked at him this time while he was taking a sip of his drink and looking at the view that was in front of them. She sighed. She could see that was not water or a soda. They have talked about this many time even with Richie and Tico, giving from their expiernce to help him make up his mind but it didn't always worked out fine.

She had notished a change in his behavior the past few months but she alwasy thought that was because he was stressed about the wedding and becoming a father. But now only 24 hours before the wedding he seemed lost in his thoughts again. She wanted to talk with him many times but whenever she had the chance she couldn't speak to words. Maybe that was her fault as well, she knew him very well and knew when he was unhappy or stressed and now he was both. But if he couldn't open up to her how would she be able to help him with whatever was bothering him.

She really didn't expect to have these kind of thoughts hours before the wedding. Jesse brought her back from her daydream by saying "I'll go the lobby to get my suit and then i'll go to my brother's room for the night like we said." Once he finished his sentene he stood up. "Everything will be perfect because you will be there tommorow." he started and took a step closer to where she was sitting. He placed both of this palms on her cheeks and met her lips for a sweet kiss. "Know that i love you, that i have always loved you in ways that go without saying, in seasons that tease you to give up, at your worst, at my worst. I love you Paul, i have never needed a reason. Simply your existenve is reason enough." he almost whispered not wanting anyone else to here this, only her even though the room was empty.

He kissed her one more time as he made his way to the door but he stopped when she finally spoke "Jess?" he turned and faced her. All the lights were off the only light that was getting in the room was the Moon's playing a beatiful game with her eyes and skin not knowing who was going to win. "Are you okay?" she said with a broken voice as a single tear came from her eye burning her cheek. He walked closely and notished that tear racing her cheek. He placed his thumb and whiped it out carefully.

"Oh Paul! Please don't cry! I have everything i need here in front of my right now. I'm just a little emotional that's all." he was looking in her hazel eyes the intire time and his heart was skipping several beats at that time. "Okay..." she aswered simply again. He kissed her forhead and made his way back to the door opened it and closed it behind him leaving Pauline standing there in the dark.

Jesse walked down the long hallway whipping off his own tears. Hell, he wanted to speak with her so badly but it was not the right time. He checked his phone and entered the elevator. That few seconds gave him the time he needed to calm his racing hearteat down. Taking a deep breath he stepped outside of the elevator and headed to the reception desk.

"Hello, I'm Jesse Bongiovi. I'd like to speak with your manager please." he said to the man standing in front of him. "Is everything alright Sir? You having any trouble with our services?" the man asked back worried. "No, no everything is fine. I just need to ask something." Jesse said. "Alright then. Wait here please. I'll go inform her. Be back in a sec." the man said and vanised to a small wooden door behind him.

These seconds felt like months to Jesse who was nervous. How could he say to the manager of the hotel they booked for their wedding that he had financial problems? With the extra guests that arrived this day and with all the other costs he paid for money were tight. Of course both his and Pauline's parents helped a lot with the expenses but unfortunately that was not enough. He got fired from the Norte Dame football team about three months ago and kept it a secret from everyone. He didn't had the courage to tell them, especially Pauline. Being herself unemployed because of her pregnancy his income was the only one this their family. Of course he was too proud to ask his father money not because he would have said no but because he wasn't 15 anymore.

With all these thoughts running through his head was kinda lost when the receptionist got back with the manager. "Good evening mr Bongiovi shall we discuss this in my office?" a woman around her 40's asked Jesse was now nervous more than ever and his palms were getting sweatty. "Sure, lead the way!" he asnwered when he found his voice.

After the chat he had with the manager turnes out that the bill was paid by this father who didn't a said a word to him. He was relieved that was for sure but also he was worried that he might had figure out that he was fired. He didn't want to deal with this right now but also he didn't want to sleep he was too awake now. He bought a a bottle of rose wine and headed to the beach in front of the hotel to clear his head.

Passing by strangers he stepped his feet in the cold sand and looked at the ocean. He took a deep breath and hold it for a few seconds so he could hear his own heartbeat dispite of the sound that the water made when it crashed the sand. With a much neeed exheal he felt alive. Opened up the bottle he bought earlier he took a sip. That should have tasted better he thought. He started walking to his left. He passed by the side entrance of the hotel but that didn't stopped him from keep going. With that bottle of wine half full and half empty he saw two men sitting on the sand smocking. He knew them very well even though the light was poor at the moment.

"Hey Jess what are you doing here?" Jon asked him looking supprised to see him as Richie was. "I was trying to relax. You know with everything going on these days!" Jesse answered simply as he was trying to hide the bottle of wine. "What's that you're holding?" Richie said trying to figure it out on his own. Jesse tried to play innocent here but he got betrayed by the light of the moon. "What are you doing here in the middle of night?" Jesse tried to change the subject. "Well, we wanted to get away for a few hours." Jon said as he blew out the smock making crazy shapes that vanished by the late night breeze.

"You know whatever is you and Pauline are dealling with that is not the answer." Richie said as he finished his own cigarette and put it out in the sand. "Been there, done that. If you go down that road there no turing back Jess! You're way too young and smart to make the same mistake like me and Teek did back then." he paused and looked back at him. "Talk to her son. She has the power to help you trust me."

"I will Richie. I will!" Jesse answered with a sigh that followed the words he said. "You still wanna play at the wedding?" he asked seconds later. "Of course and we will play tommorow! It will be nice and we know the songs." Richie answered first. "You wrote these songs!" Jesse said and laughed. "We know but we're not invited to weddings often to perform them. Plus Ava will do a live thing on Instagram i'm not sure..." Jon replied "Oh great!" Jesse said back sarcastically.

"Hey Dad can i talk to you for a sec? It's important." he said again quickly not leaving time to Jon to comment on the things he just heard. "Whatever you want to say you can say it in front of Richie. We don't keep secrets from each other like others." Jon slapped back at his son. He had no idea what his son was dealing with.

"Okay then..." Jesse started and sut next to them. Taking a deep breath he continued "Why did you pay the hotel bill?" he turned to him and met his gaze. Jon inhaled the smocke and let it out as he answered "We know you got fired from Notre Dame. And i know you couldn't ask for a dollar i wanted to help you. Pauline's Dad payed the other half." "So, they know too?" Jesse asked and took a sip of the wine. "No, just the three of us. I coudn't tell your mother and of course Pauline who i'm sure has no idea." Jon replied and took an another inhale of the cigarette.

"How do you know? How long?" Jesse asked confused and suprised. "Me and Rich were in New York and saw your coach and told us everything." Jon stated. "Look Jess, that's a lot to take but you must have a talk with her. I'm not here to yell at you as i should for keeping this a secret but you're old enough now. Just do the right think." Jon finished.

"We all know what happend the last time you hid something from her and apart from that she has the right to know what the fuck is going on." Richie spoke as the lit an another cigarette. "You made that mistake once. This time it's a choice." "Fuck! I know, i just don't to hurt her again. She's so fucking happy for tommorow and i'm sitting here with you drinking a not so good wine. What's wrong with me?" Jesse answered as the tears followed quickly.

"Listen to me! There is not a fucking thing wrong with you Jess!" Jon said to his son. "Then why i i'm not just as happy as she is?" Jesse asked them both. "Because you're afraid of change just like your Dad! You love progress but you hate change. And this is a change." Richie jumped in "I'm not talking about the wedding. You have two beatiful sons and their mother adores you. And that's progress not change. Sure having two babies is a blessing yow know. You just need to slow down and relax." Richie finished.

"Here give me that!" Richie said a few seconds later with the cigarette resting on his lips. Jesse handed him the almost empty bottle of wine and saw Richie purring the rest of it into the dry sand. "Promise me Jess that you'll talk to her okay?" Jon asked his oldest son. Jesse nodded yes silently. "Good!" Jon answered as he looked over at Richie who had a small smile on his face both knowing that they did the right thing here. The three of them were sitting there watching how the moon was shining making a perfect reflection to the hawaiin waters.
